Yuusha-kei ni Shosu: Choubatsu Yuusha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku began as a web novel on Kakuyomu on October 28, 2020. The first official volume was published on September 17, 2021 by Kadokawa under the Dengeki no Shinbungei label. The series has been published in English as Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint since August 22, 2023.
