Background

The story Fuyuu suru Mizu was adapted to a live-action Japanese film, which was released on January 19, 2002. The film was remade as the 2005 American film Dark Water. The story Yume no Shima Cruise was adapted as the first episode of the live-action Japanese anthology drama series Gensou Midnight, which premiered on October 5, 1997. The same story was adapted as the final episode of the live-action American anthology series Masters of Horror, which premiered on February 2, 2007. A live-action American film adaptation of Hyouryuusen is in development. The novel was published in English as Dark Water by Vertical Inc. in December 2004, and by HarperCollins on April 3, 2006.
