Synopsis

In the summer of 1992, Gene Edwards' vacation at his uncle Trevor's house takes an unexpected turn. While tidying up Trevor's study, he stumbles upon a collection of old love letters and cryptic notes about a man named Gene. As he digs deeper, he uncovers a long-buried secret, revealing a hidden chapter of his uncle's past. Back in 1973, a kind stranger saves Trevor, a lawyer, from professional ruin by returning his lost documents. The stranger, Gene Walker, is homeless and unemployed, and he accepts Trevor's offer to stay with him in exchange for helping out around the house. Despite Gene's odd behavior and lack of basic knowledge, an unexpected bond forms between them. Living on the margins of society—one as a gay man, the other as an ex-Amish urban transplant—they find comfort and love in one another. What begins as a simple connection grows into something deeper, reshaping their lives and challenging everything they thought they knew about themselves and the world around them.
